NYC-CBT offers support during this time

Dear NYC-CBT Community,

We are horrified by the atrocious terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas leading to, in its current count, twelve hundred deaths and over a hundred fifty hostages. Many in our community are trying to process this threat to the one Jewish state, support family and friends abroad, navigate painful or inadequate responses by institutions and on social media, mourn loss of innocent lives, while still providing treatment and support to patients, many of whom have also been affected. In light of this, we wanted to offer resources and support for our community and patients. Read more…

NYC-CBT’S RESPONSE TO RECENT ACTS OF ANTI-SEMITISM

In the past year we have seen surges of violence and hate. Most recently, we have seen violence, vandalism, and hateful speech against Jews. We continue to condemn violence and hate toward any religious, cultural, and/or ethnic group. ADL.org >

NYC-CBT STANDS WITH THE AAPI COMMUNITY

NYC-CBT stands united with our Asian American Pacific Islander communities against AAPI hate. Over the past year, and with increasing frequency in the past few months, we have seen a rise in hate crimes directed toward AAPI communities. We unequivocally condemn acts of violence, harassment, discrimination and denigrating rhetoric toward individuals of Asian descent. Additionally, we continue to remain committed to helping our community of clinicians more fully and effectively engage with minority communities in need. https://stopaapihate.org >

BLACK LIVES MATTER TO NYC-CBT

Like so many millions of people across the globe, we are saddened and outraged by the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police. We recognize that his death is only one of innumerable injustices perpetrated against Black people in this country, and indeed, around the world. We are heartened by the stand that citizens of all ethnicities and creeds are taking against racism. We fully support peaceful protest in the name of racial equality and social justice and we support the Black Lives Matter movement.

In that we want our words to be accompanied by action, we are donating $2000 to the Loveland Foundation, which provides financial assistance for Black women and girls to receive psychotherapy services. Additionally, we plan to offer future events aimed at helping our community of clinicians more fully and effectively engage with minority communities in need.

Announcing New Psychological Resources for the Support of Ukrainian Refugees

🇺🇦

We are excited to share how our own Bob Leahy has been working with other renowned colleagues to help support the psychological needs of Ukrainian refugees and victims of war. They have organized a series of 28 lectures for therapists in Poland and Ukraine and throughout Eastern Europe who are working with refugees from Ukraine.

While these lectured were initially live and free of charge, they are now charging a nominal fee for access. Every lecture is being recorded and will also be available at a later time for anybody to access. Some of the top people in the world have volunteered their time. These experts include Patricia Resick,, William Miller, Cory Newman, David Clark, Lata McGinn, Emily Holmes, John Markowitz, Windy Dryden, Paul Gilbert, Jill Rathus, Frank Datillio and of course Bob Leahy.

These are directed toward therapists and are in English and simultaneously translated into Polish and Ukrainian. There are hopes that we will have these lectures translated in other languages. As you may be aware there are 85 million refugees and displaced people worldwide. The content of these lectures should be relevant to mental healthcare workers working with refugees elsewhere.
